A little further east, Aigues-Mortes offers a gateway to the wild Camargue, whereas Nîmes or Arles, with their extensive Roman heritage, remain an excellent suggestion for cultural visits. Alternatively, why not go inland and visit the Pic Saint-Loup vineyards, one of the most celebrated appellations of the Languedoc.

Its archaeological site and museum recall Lattara, the ancient port town founded here more than two thousand years ago, and the protected Méjean lagoon is close by.
